My brother stumbled across a fascinating government leaflet from Third Reich times, urging farmers to kill ("ausmerzen") all chicken "who do not earn their food," that is those who do not lay at least 100 eggs per year. The publication also gives advise on how to identify the "racial features" that betray such useless poultry.
